ShadowSea – 2-player starter boxed set – Battle of Deadwood Forest

ShadowSea – Battle of Deadwood Forest is a two-player introduction to our miniatures game, ShadowSea – Conquest of the Underground World, or simply “ShadowSea”. The setting for the game is a sunless world deep under the earths surface, below a frozen continent at the southern end of the world. This place was lost to history until seekers of fortune ventured into the nighted depths to confront the rulers of the ancient underground seas and do battle with guardians of forgotten relics.
In the ShadowSea game, Players do battle in a quest for lost artifacts through this hidden world. Here they will encounter forests of towering fungal trees, Prehistoric jungles inhabited by bloodthirsty reptiles, ruined cities infested with hungry creatures and even underwater citadels left behind by mysterious ancient beings.  Games are played using models representing adventurers, bio-mechanical constructs and savage wild creatures. Players compete in multiple linked scenarios across a campaign, improving their warbands and characters after each scenario.

The game includes three 6-sided dice, printed maps for the scenarios, miniatures for the two competing warbands, printed measurement sticks for movement and measuring range, printed counters and markers for treasure and scenic items. Also included are two Ripperclaw Lizard miniatures that act as wild creatures to hunt down the warbands.

The Ripperclaws add an extra survival mechanic to gameplay and may be killed but more are drawn to the battle by the scent of blood. In addition, the game includes cardstock markers to use for large wild creatures, such as the terrifying Daggertooth King Lizard and the horrific Megalapede.

The setting is the late 17th century, many years after the initial discovery of an underground world located miles underneath lands of perpetual ice and snow with a mysterious ocean called the Shadow Sea. The Fortune Hunters that discovered the Underlands, as this world is called, are not alone however, as native forces battle them and each other over the ancient treasures of the realm.

In the Battle for Deadwood Forest, there are two native forces competing. The first is the dreaded Axibalán Empire, a decadent civilization rules by powerful sorceresses. They are met by the brutal Draconid Legion, the previously enslaved warriors of the Empire. The Draconid Legion were created through transmutation magic from the blood of ethereal dragons to serve the Axibalán Empire but revolted against their masters and now grow into a massive force that spreads across the Underlands. The Axibalán Empire wishes to reclaim it previous greatness and hunts down their rogue creations, hoping to bring them under its control again.

ShadowSea – Battle of Deadwood Forest brings players into this exciting world of tabletop adventure with fast gameplay and scenarios lasting from 30 to 60 minutes. The rules are designed to be modular, so they are easy to learn but have enough complexity that players can game in a variety of styles, blasting their opponents, stealthily sneaking into ruins to steal artifacts, or wielding Ethereal Magic spells to control the minds of their foes. Whether you are a novice to tabletop gaming or an experienced player, the game provides a fun way to spend an evening with friends.
